Given the tragedy of yesterday some might ask, “How can a loving caring God allow such a terrible thing to happen?” Since some people are inclined to use such a situation to condemn God or worse yet dismiss Him all together I would like to offer a response. The answer, God does not condone this or any other acts of evil any more than he condoned the fall of Man in the Garden of Eden. Man was/is given the gift and privilege of free will and it includes a choice of choosing his own will or trusting in that of God’s will. God gave us free will to choose to follow Him or to choose our own will or else we would be drone robots as capable of real love as the computer that I am typing on. Yesterday a young man chose selfishness in the form of a self absorbed act of anger and violence against himself and worse yet those innocents around him. No doubt he was blinded by a demon of lies, bitterness and hate and deceived by The Great Deceiver, Satan himself. The shooter chose his will not God’s will and it had a very real consequences as sin always does. But God in his amazing Grace and Love provides away out for all that fall to self-will and sin but it requires the leveling of pride, humility, repentance, confession and the assurance of forgiveness. He offers the gospel of Jesus, The Good News. So what of the innocents that died yesterday? Are we to believe that since God ‘Let’ this happen that he did not care about or love them. Not at ALL. God as we are told in scripture holds eternity in his hand and he knows that this physical life is just temporary. It is only us(Man) that are stuck with our minds in this physical life that see the passing of his children(young and old) as a tragedy. God is not as concerned with our physical life as we are because he knows he has our spiritual lives where eternity awaits. Don’t get me wrong it is because this physical life is all we have known that this concept of God’s view (Spiritual Eternity) is so difficult for us. If we were to act and behave with God’s view this would require faith in what is unseen and that is difficult for us all. But please make no mistake God did not chose or ‘allow’ yesterday to happen, he never wants us to choose sin, he never wants us to suffer the consequences of our sin. But for free will to be free and real then we must. A man chose and allowed this to happen, God however in the form of Jesus is still and always will be offering to clean up our messes. God is offering to wipe the tears from our eyes. I pray that those grieving in this loss will be drawn closer to God through this tragedy, in this way these lives that are now spiritually with our Lord will continue to bring Glory to His name.
